Ecological awakening with Fanny

ALARM CLOCK #3 — This summer, I met Fanny ( @fannyb ) at her café, Le Passager ( @passager_cafe ). A former stylist turned content creator, this jack-of-all-trades, who likes to live day by day, shared her story with me as well as her eco-friendly alarm clock, which she wants more than ever to pass on to her children.
“My journey into fashion and beauty was born thanks to my mother.”
She has always been a fan of fashion and beauty… When I was little, I watched fashion shows on TV with her. She is also one of the few people who wears Yves Saint Laurent blue mascara. I grew up with this image of her, always surrounded by beautiful things that she took the time to find second-hand. It really inspired me to become a stylist, even though a few years ago, becoming a stylist was not common, even less so as the first of 5 children.
" I enjoy living day by day. Connecting with the present moment gives me a sense of security."
What I love most about my current job is the unexpected. I hate planning ahead, setting long-term goals; it doesn't work for me. I like the idea that every morning is the start of a new day where everything remains to be accomplished. Of course, routine is necessary, especially when you have children, but I manage it. Being a mother and leaving room for the unexpected... It's this bohemian, instant life that my husband and I appreciate.
" No one educates you to understand your impact.”
I realized that I had been raised to never question my choices. I grew up in the heart of the countryside, surrounded by animals, and I ate meat without really understanding the reasons. Six years ago, I decided to stop eating it, because I informed myself and understood. This is ultimately the case for most people of my generation, from the 90s. As children, we were not aware of our lifestyles.
" It's better to be a whole group making small changes than to be alone and radical."
The birth of my son completely challenged me. I really became aware of the state of the planet. I started looking for alternatives to consume better at our level, and living in Paris helped me a lot. It's not a Parisian bobo thing. I appreciate city life because I can do everything by bike, my appointments, my shopping at 'Au Bout du Champ', we try to reduce our waste, to favor seasonal products... Of course, we are not perfect and everything cannot change overnight, as my boyfriend says, you have to sow seeds.
" You want to show your children that you are doing your best for them, even if you can't control everything."
My daughter has reflexes that I would never have had at her age; she is fully anchored in her generation. We talk a lot with our children, we show them that it is possible to do things differently. Without forcing them, we share solutions with them so that they can become aware and understand. It will be thanks to our children that we can hope for a habitable planet, with the education we give them today; it will not be so much thanks to technology.
