Indoor ecology with Marie Queru

L'écologie d'intérieur avec Marie Queru

Minimalism is a well-known credo in fashion to deal with fast-fashion... Marie Queru, founder of L'arrangeuse , decided to adapt this movement to her interior. In 2020 she launched the concept of “ indoor ecology ” — But let it be said : indoor ecology does not mean having to swap your interior for a Tiny House with dry toilets and cold showers (although, we would be quite happy there). Quite the opposite... To curl up in softness at home and play the minimalism card at home, I asked Marie for some advice. Her philosophy in a few words? “I deeply believe that we live better with less.”

The principles of indoor ecology, according to Marie

Indoor ecology allows you to decontaminate your home. But not only that, it's also a path to finding balance between yourself, your belongings, and the environment. It's about questioning what surrounds you and focusing on the essentials in order to find the right amount of things for your well-being. This initiative, once implemented, motivates you to adopt sustainable and reasonable consumption by managing your possessions so you don't become a slave to them.

The 3 pillars of indoor ecology

In 2019, when Marie founded L' arrangeuse , a consulting company that supports individuals, businesses and brands in organizing their spaces, she distinguished 3 principles to better understand and make people understand indoor ecology:

  • Beauty: it's about treating visual pollution by removing what we have in excess.
  • The practical: we refocus on functional essentials for a simplified daily life that fights against mental pollution.
  • Sustainable: to address environmental pollution, it's about doing less but better with higher quality objects.

How to achieve this?

To naturally tend towards the less better, Marie shares with us every day numerous DIYs on her Instagram account , but we asked her to list for us here, the stages of a gentle transition, in 4 stages:

  1. Becoming aware of your lifestyle,
  2. Understand where the problems come from (decor, dishes, cosmetics, books, clothes, etc.), to get the keys,
  3. List the different actions to be carried out, to properly engage in the transition,
  4. Act by treating by categories: bathroom, kitchen, bedroom...

What are the gains from this transition?

For Marie, this transition allows, above all, to change her perspective on objects and her personal and professional environment. Getting to grips with indoor ecology means regaining control of your consumption to be freer, more responsible, and happier. In a few words, Marie shares with us the notable gains from the first implementation:

  • Time: By reducing the number of objects, there is necessarily less to store and clean.
  • Simplification: by knowing better what we own, our brain knows better where things are stored, and daily life is made easier.
  • Space: You will find the space you need to feel more comfortable.
  • Serenity: the mental state is soothed by tidying up.

Ultimately, interior ecology means cultivating a minimalist and environmentally friendly way of life. Values that also resonate at Refyld ... We have chosen to reinvent care & hygiene products, because they are symbolic products of our time. They illustrate the "all disposable" side of the model in which we have been evolving for many years. By rethinking them, we have reduced their visual and ecological impact... And we are happy to see that our products find a place in Marie's sober and refined bathroom .
